5 essential tools all beginners Paper Florists should have

When I started one year ago, I was a complete newbie in the Paper Flowers world. I thought that in order to have pretty flowers I should have had a lot of tools...but that isn't entirely correct.

Of course, all the crafters can lose themselves in craft stores as ... you never have enough tools or supplies.

The truth is that in order to start you don't need a lot of things.

Keep reading and you'll discover what is essential:

A very good pair of scissors (ok, maybe two...). I use steel scissors with a 10 cm blade, ideal for cutting long strips of paper or heavy/doublette crepe paper. The second one is smaller and I use it for details while cutting petals and leaves, or for small fringes, as it has a pointed tip for intricate cutting.

A fine-point hot glue gun. The fine-point is essential as you need to apply a short amount of glue on each petal/leave and a big point just won't do the job. Some paper florists use a cold glue gun; personally, I don't like it, although it is great to avoid burnt fingers. I bought a few of them to find the one I like, but I strongly suggest avoiding cordless glue guns and I would prefer one with a bottom stand.

Long-nose pliers with a comfortable grip. You might have already one in your tools box, but if you don't I strongly suggest buying one as it is very useful to bend florist wire (that can vary in thickness) while making flower stems.

A pair of wire cutters is essential to cut florist wire of different thicknesses. You might have also this in your tools box if not, they are not expensive at all and unbreakable so it is a good investment.

I left it as last but probably should go as first. If you want to save your living room/kitchen table (or your craft table, if you are lucky to have a craft room), you should definitely have a craft-cutting self-healing mat. These may vary in price and are definitely not cheap, but worth it. With all the cutting, gluing, and coloring you will consider it your crafting best friend!
